What We Do

The Midwest Victim Impact Program is designed to educate offenders involved in alcohol, drug and serious traffic offenses as to the results of their actions, and the effect on themselves, families and their community. The program is not designed to embarrass the offender, but to educate. The program is a panel format, with a variety of speakers that include law enforcement personnel, EMT's, victims of impaired and careless drivers, and their family members. The program is 90 minutes long, with additional time allotted for questions and discussion.

Program Personnel

Program director Cindy Ethridge is a former Kansas City, Missouri police officer who speaks from the law enforcement standpoint, including topics such as why the offender was stopped for the violation, current laws and legislation, death notification standards, civil and legal repercussions, and specific incidents within the community where the panel is held.

Additional rotating speakers include a young woman whose life was changed forever by an impaired driver, who left her permently disabled and caused the death of her infant daughter, repeat offenders, and panel participants who have asked to speak so that others will avoid the path their life's have taken.

Participation

Offenders are assigned to the class by court order, as part of their probation, SIS or diversion order. Attorneys may refer clients prior to court appearance - offenders will be provided with a court certified completion. We welcome parents, legal guardians, family members or any individual concerned with the effects of impaired or careless driving to register themselves or a family member for this educational forum.
